Online education is an education system which is designed to provide the education to those students who cannot join the institutions. It is also known as distance learning and E-learning as well.

Origin

The University of London was the first institution which started this system of education in 1858. More institutions conducted online education system around the globe after the success of this system in Great Britain. In most countries, Open University is the widely used term for such institutions, which are using such sort of the education system.

Working Mechanism

Online education system uses different mediums to deliver the courses and basic syllabus of specific course to the students. Students can get all of their assignment, notes, and projects for research and lectures regarding their courses. There is no need of class room for such sort of activity.

These sources include the internet, CD's, TV and radio channels and mail. Students can communicate with their teachers or instructors via using the internet. Special chat rooms are made for students, where they can join their other mates and instructors to obtain the help about their study. Many universities have their own TV channels by which they broadcast the lectures and programs, containing the study material. TV channels have proven significant to promote this system of education. Although, many new sources of media have been discovered yet radio is a still popular way to deliver the lectures to students, because everyone has access to the radio in any country. It's broadcast can be heard at long distances. In many counties, Mail is used to distribute to online education courses as well.

Other new and modern mediums for the online education system are mp3 players, PDA's and Smart Phones. After completion of the courses, exams are conducted at examination centers, or they may also be given online as well.

Though states are making cuts to education across the board, the John C. Dunham Trust is doing its part to help keep the Aurora area well-funded. Though the majority of the grants awarded to philanthropic organizations by the Dunham Trust are given to safe houses and halfway homes, the group recently began awarding scholarships to nursing students as well.

The John C. Dunham Trust was founded in 1996 and founded in 2007 according to Dunham's wishes. The Dunham Trust is designed to increase the quality of life in Illinois and particularly in Aurora. In order to achieve this goal, the Dunham trustees have focused on assisting organizations and charities that improve health and health care, helping Dunham's desire to "make the world a more comfortable, safer place for mankind to live and prosper" come to fruition.

This nursing scholarship, known as the Dunham Nursing Scholarship, is awarded to nursing students in the Aurora area, and is aimed towards offsetting the cost of education for nurses of all levels of education, from undergraduate to post graduate. The Dunham trust has already helped dozens of students pursue higher education, with $210,000 in scholarships awarded to college students from Aurora.

The Dunham Trust group has joined with health care professionals in Illinois, the Kane County Health Department, the Rush Copley Foundation, Aurora University and Dreyer Medical Clinic among other groups in order to fund the $750,000 program. The Dunham Trust hopes that by helping to pay for education, nurses from the Aurora Area will be given the resources to pursue higher education and will be able to support a high-performing nursing staff in its health care facility.

The scholarship program, which awards almost a million dollars in scholarships, is distributed to at least 40 students every year between July 2009 and June 2011, assisting approximately 120 students enrolled in nursing programs during its years in service. This scholarship program, in unison with President Obama's health care reforms and stimulus bills, will make it easier than ever for aspiring nurses to fund their education.

Those awarded scholarships will have aid determined by their location. Students at Waubonsee will see 90% tuition coverage, and students at Aurora will be covered for 75% of their tuition costs after acceptance. Applicants must have lived in the Aurora Area before they will be considered, and can apply beginning on October 1. The scholarship will be awarded to applicants based on members of a review board composed of representatives of the groups funding the scholarship.

After receiving the scholarship funds, applicants will be obligated to work with their funding organizations on a number of community service projects based in their field of experience. At graduation, the now-accredited nurses are contracted to work in Aurora for at least two years.

Scholarships from the John C. Dunham Trust are awarded most often to students from DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties in Illinois. This area, between Illinois State Routes 38, 59 and 47 and US Route 34, is known as the 'Aurora Area.' Applicants from other areas may be considered, but Aurora applicants are given preferential consideration.

Classes start continuously, so you can enter a program at anytime. Materials are available 24/7 on the Internet. You can receive credit from previous experience through a DANTES exam or from previous classes through a CLEP exam. Capella University has five schools: Business and Technology, Education, Human Services, and Psychology.

Aspen

Aspen was the first University to offer a 100% online masters degree in business (MBA). Twenty-five years later the school still offers accredited online college degree programs. The Distance Education and Training Council Accrediting Commission accredit Aspen. Internet classes last eight weeks and start five times a year. You can earn credit by exam through DANTES and CLEP examinations. Aspen is an adult-focused college, with course work entirely online. Programs in business, technology, education, nursing and criminal justice are offered. Aspen offers a decrease in tuition if paid up front: a bachelor's degree will only cost 4,500 plus the cost of books.

Westwood

The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology accredit Westwood. Online courses are offered for seventeen degrees. This includes computer science, criminal justice, graphic design, and fashion merchandising. With accelerated programs you can finish an associates degree in 17 months and a bachelors degree in 3 years. Westwood utilizes modern computer technology to provide an interactive, hands-on approach to education. Westwood also offers employment assistance.

Walden University

North Central Association of Schools and Colleges and the Higher Learning Commission accredits Walden University, founded in Baltimore, MD. Walden's online courses have frequent start dates. Degrees in education, health and human services, management, psychology, nursing, engineering and public policy administration are available. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing accredits the masters in science of nursing program and the education tract is accredited by CCNE. Advisors will help you decide on the program for you.

There are literally hundreds of campus based colleges and universities as well as online colleges and universities that offer a multitude of degrees online. There is absolutely a school and program that will meet your needs.
